Active-Matrix Organic Polymer Light-Emitting Displays

Twenty Section members and two guests attended a meeting at the north campus of the University of Michigan on "Active Matrix Organic Polymer Light emitting Displays" given by Dr. Jerzy Kinicki of the Department of Engineering and Computer Science. His in-depth Power-point presentation covered LCD, Plasma, Polycrystaline Silicon and CRT displays. He went into each display materials construction, the current size limitation of each of the materials, their resolution and the delicacy of some of the materials. He also discussed the future and which of the materials currently used had a probable best future. He felt that at present, the Samsung company was in the lead in the manufacture of these types of displays. Many were suprised by his statement that the CRT would probably be around for a while because of its picture quality and cost.

There was a discussion period with many questions and answers after which the meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were served and discussions with Dr. Kinicki were continued. (Submitted by Harold Miller, Manager, SMPTE Detroit Section
