Detroit Public TV, WTVS Channel 56, was housed in its Second Avenue New Center facility since WJBK-TV left it in 1972. The Riley Broadcast Center in Wixom is the new home of the administrative and on-air operations of the station. The move of all but the production studio from the old plant to the new presented many daunting challenges.

DPTV Engineering VP (and former Detroit Section Chair), Helge Blucher will talk about the building, its previous history and the process of converting it into a modern broadcast facility; description of the MCR project, from design and construction to the finished rooms and the move from New Center. Also explained will be signal transport for analog and three DTV streams from the Wixom MCR to two transmitter sites. Helge will also describe upcoming studio construction plans, followed by a tour of MCR and editing areas.

Helge Blucher has served as Vice Presiddnt of Engineering & Technology at WTVS, Detroit Public Television, since 1998. He has more than 30 years experience in television engineering in the US and Canada, with over 20 years in the Detroit area in TV production and broadcasting.
